Description
Psychotherapy is about change - the change you want to happen in your life.
In addition to providing a warm, non-judgemental therapeutic space, my role as a psychotherapist is to use my knowledge and experience to facilitate the process of change you desire and/or to support you if you struggle with unwanted changes in your life.
You may think about starting psychotherapy for a variety of reasons. At times these reasons can be well defined, such as struggles resulting from bereavement or loss, relationship difficulties, depression or anxiety. They could also include difficult or even traumatic past experiences such as childhood abuse or complex relationships with important people in your life. However, you do not need to have a well defined problem in order to consider therapy. If you feel that you cannot move forward, feel that you have lost a part of yourself or if you have a vague sense of missing out on something psychotherapy offers a way of exploring these feelings.
What to expect from psychotherapy/counselling
There are many different therapeutic approaches to psychological therapies and all of them have their merits. Though, there are significant differences in terms of the length and the depth of various training programmes. In general, to train as a psychotherapist takes significantly longer than to train as a counsellor, hence psychotherapist are better prepared to work with more complex problems.
I am a fully qualified psychotherapist accredited by the UKCP and trained to a doctoral level.
I work in an integrative and relational way that applies to a wide range of problems such as: relationship issues, family issues, depression, anxiety, low self-confidence, personality difficulties.
In my work I am interested in your past experiences, your beliefs about life and other people, and in your current patterns of interaction in your relationships. I work in a relational way because I believe that what happens between us in a session not only results from the actual relationship between us but is also influenced by your other important relationships, both past and present.
Free consultation
I offer an initial consultation that is free of charge.
This session gives both of us a chance to learn about each other. It enables me to find out something about the nature of the difficulties that brought you here, and gives you an opportunity to learn about my way of working. We might discuss what our work together might look like, what your expectations are and whether I can meet them. It is an opportunity for you to get a sense of me as your therapist and to see whether this might be the right place for you.
